Nativity, Abstract - Jesus

Nativity, Abstract

by Kelly Ann Hall

What a strange container for God…a baby! How utterly defenseless! He gave up God-ness to present Himself to us in a way that helped us let our guard down. His ways are graceful. His ways are wise, He teaches us how to approach the world order with the strength of unbelievable vulnerability. He entrusted Himself to us, we are His keepers on earth. We carry His torch, we carry His love and message. Throughout the season, we have been presenting this abstract expression of the Nativity. It’s “abstract” because the hope is that as you read these pieces you would find yourself in their story.

Have you made room for Him? It is not too late. It is never too late.

close your eyes,
but don’t stop looking.
draw in a good, deep breath…

get present.

be where you are, be all that you are.

give and take the air,
relax, let your guard down…
pray for sight.
pray for peace.

To the displaced,
         living on the run;
the terrorized,
         a world shrinking in the distance;
the empty,
         hunger eating you alive
the searcher,
         searching for what fits…
                   are you tired?
                   weary of ever-darkening days?

One way or another, you’ve made your way to here.
To this day, to Me—do you recognize Me?
I have done something new;
I came through, opened a pathway to Myself
for you.

I may not seem like much,
tucked into mother, turning attention to My father—
it was through their willingness
that I revalued the human life,
paid the price for inclusion,
a newborn start to an unimaginable victory—
darkness will lose its cool!
(Even My cries cause it to lighten up.)

Because, I will stand eye to eye,
brush shoulders, live among My people!
I embody love and mercy: unaltered.
I came to be and show you the way,
to ask you once again to open,

Come to Me, I am filled with Light!

When systems become death-dealing,
when problems center around scarcity,
when the conversation builds around ‘who has what’.

Make room.
Let Me guide you.

Please remember: I have settled this, but I need you to come along.

Follow Me.
Earth by My foot is consecrated ground,
with every step I am blessing the walk.
With every surge of Him, I am giving more of Myself to you.
I cannot contain Myself!
Rightness overflowing, Love ongoing—
beloved, you have Me.
The unimaginable, Being-with-you God looking to create and enliven—
it never gets old for Me.

Love is eternal.

So here we are, you found Me, I AM yours…
you are My manger and I your guiding star,
how will you ever contain the brilliance?
The absolute All, the precise Love, the Ongoing?

You can’t.
You will have to give Me away.

About Altɐr

We believe there is an alternative narrative to the prevalent narrative of scarcity and fear. We believe God is moving and is behind an alternative narrative of abundance and freedom, a narrative in which fear gets defeated and love wins.

We believe God’s narrative requires we altǝr our perspective, that we step, in faith, into God’s upside down reality. In God’s reality we listen for, live and speak God’s upside down voice of faith, hope and love, not striving for ourselves but serving our neighbor. For all these reasons, this is Altǝr.

Stir Imagination. Spark discussion.
